The following websites all contain information about global and ethical issues in Business and Economics that may be useful to teachers and students.
Please note that none of the sites is under the control of Just Business and we do not necessarily endorse any of the opinions that might be expressed on their pages. Many of the sites offer a critical perspective. If you are aware of other websites that might be similarly of interest please let us know. We will periodically update this links page.

- A website providing information about the international trade in bananas. This trade raises many ethical issues in business and economic activity, and the site is a useful source of case study material. ««

- An American site with information on world hunger issues, an annual hunger report, factsheets and so on. ««
- www.bsr.org
- Business for Social Responsibility is a membership organisation that seeks to help companies be commercially successful in ways that demonstrate respect for ethical values, people, communities and the environment. The site has a resource centre on global business responsibility with lots of useful information. ««

- This site explains the strategies and tools that companies can draw on to translate an aspiration for sustainability into practical, effective solutions. Case studies from around the world are provided as an example of each measure. ««

- Business & Human Rights: A Resource Website. The aim of this 'online library' is to provide easy access (through links) to a wide range of materials, and to promote informed discussion of important policy issues. ««

- Another large American site. Corporate Watch is a campaigning organisation that monitors the activities of global corporations and reports on the 'ethics' of their activities in terms of human rights, environmental issues, terms and conditions of employment and so on. ««

- Confusingly, there are two organisations called Corporate Watch, entirely independent of each other. This one is UK based and publishes a magazine of the same name, the content of which is available online. The site makes no pretence to objectivity, being almost entirely critical of 'big business'. Useful as an alternative to the views of more mainstream publications such as The Economist. ««

- The site of the Clean Clothes Campaign, which has a wealth of case study material about the terms and conditions of employment for garment workers worldwide. ««
- Disposable Planet?
- A BBC six-part special on sustainable development, exploring issues around population, food, cities, waste, tourism and energy. The site also contains an a slideshow of images, an on-line quiz to measure your impact on the environment and a discussion forum. ««

- The site of the UK government's Department for International Development. This site contains information about current government policy on development issues. ««
- Dynamix
- Dynamix is a workers' co-operative which provides training and facilitation, packs and publications that help people to explore serious issues in a fun way. Most recently they have set up a new site www.case4us.com to support Co-operative and Social Enterprises in Educational Settings. ««

- A campaigning and research site, once again American based. Good source of case study material about the global activities of transnational corporations, particularly with regard to labour and environmental issues. ««

- An excellent internet site which acts as an online market place and community, providing goods, services and information that tap into the ever-increasing demand for more ethical and environmentally aware lifestyle choices. ««

- Many UK firms have signed up to the Ethical Trading Initiative, agreeing to abide by certain ethical standards in their business practices, including abiding by codes of conduct on issues such as working conditions, and eventually to submit to 'ethical auditing' of their activities. More information about the ETI is available on this site. ««

- Eurosif, the European Sustainable and Responsible Investment Forum, is the pan-European stakeholder network for promoting and developing sustainable and responsible investment. ««
- www.fairtrade.org.uk
- Fair trade is a related, but different, concept to ethical trade. The principle of fair trade is that producers of primary products in 'third world' countries are guaranteed a minimum price for their output above the world market price, and purchasers enter long term contracts so that producers' incomes are secure - enabling forward planning and investment. Consumers pay a marginally higher price - a social premium - for products which bear the fairtrade mark. Find out more by visiting the website of the fairtrade foundation. ««

- An online version of Global Eye, a magazine about development issues which contains articles and activities of relevance to Business Studies students, particularly at GCSE level. ««

- The site of the world famous people's bank based in Bangladesh. An excellent site for information on micro-credit schemes and particularly for case study materials about women and economic development. Links to similar projects in Africa. ««
- JokEc
- As Economists we are often guilty of taking ourselves too seriously. This page of jokes at our expense might help to bring us back to earth. ««
- www.labourbehindthelabel.org
- Labour Behind the Label is a group that campaigns for a living wage and decent conditions of work for garment workers both in the UK and overseas. The workforce in this industry is predominantly female. The website includes a list of resources including up to date research about the garment industry. ««
- Milking It!
- Oxfam's on-line resource on small farmers and international trade. Compare the lives of two dairy farmers in very different countries. How are they affected by international trade rules? Who makes these rules, and what can we do to change them? ««

- NEAD is the parent organisation of Just Business. NEAD is a Development Education Centre operating primarily in Norfolk and North Suffolk. NEAD's schools website has an extensive catalogue of teaching resources for all curriculum areas. ««
